**William Henry Fox Talbot**(1800-1877). The inventor of the photographic negative in 1834, he was also a serious mathematician, having been 12th Wrangler in 1821. He received a Royal Medal of the Royal Society for his researches in integral calculus, and was the first to decipher cuneiform from Ninevah. Lacock Abbey is now a Fox Talbot Museum and some of his mathematical work is on exhibit.
