Youghal, Ireland

Raleigh lived at Myrtle Grove, Youghal, and was mayor of the town in 1588. He is reputed to have planted the first potatoes in Ireland at Youghal and the first cherry tree in Ireland (brought from the Canaries) at nearby Affane House. [Hammond, pp.115-116.]

There is a large monument of the Boyle family in St. Mary's Collegiate Church, showing the nine children of the 'Great' Earl of Cork, hence including the future chemist [Hammond, p.115].
