The aim of the Society was for the nationwide enhancement and expansion of mathematics and related sciences. In particular, the Society was set up to support mathematical research and to promote mathematics by encouraging and acknowledging its contributions to science, social science, economics, and technical fields. The Society attempts to improve mathematics education at graduate, undergraduate and at all school levels, as well as increasing the public awareness of mathematics by demonstrating its attractiveness.

On its website the Society indicates the activities that it undertakes [1]:

In 1960 the Society became a full member of the International Mathematical Union. It also became a member of the European Mathematical Society in 2008.The Turkish Mathematical Society organizes annual national symposiums in different regions of the country. So far, twenty symposia have been organized at fifteen Turkish universities. Each year, hundreds of academicians attend these symposia to collaborate over research and benefit from lectures presented by researchers who are selectively invited by a scientific advisory committee. Through the organization of special sessions, young researchers are given the opportunity to present their theses, and thus, a professional platform for discussing their ideas is provided. Annual Algebra Workshops and Summer Schools fostering graduate students are conducted regularly and, in addition to facilitating research, give these give novice researchers the chance to interact with and learn from expert researchers. In addition, the Turkish Mathematical Society offers three fellowships per year, supporting three mathematics undergraduates who are selected by a fellowship committee from the list of applicants. We influence institutional and public policy through the emphasis of the need for the application of mathematics within other fields. Moreover, we promote a general understanding and appreciation of mathematics. We offer monthly seminars appealing to a general audience, to the benefit of educators and students.

The Society publishes the quarterly magazine *Matematik Dünyaső *(World of Mathematics). The magazine is designed to encourage students of all ages to pursue activities and careers in mathematical sciences. The editors write that the magazine:-

The magazine has been published since 1991 and, to illustrate the contents, we note that the first issue in 1991 contains articles on the following: Plane Geometric Angles and Measures; Four Colour Problems; Drawings that cannot be made with ruler and compass; The Extraordinary Features of Infinite Cardinals; 1, 2, 3, Endless Or Rapid Disaster!; Mathematics Teaching in the World.... is a worldwide success. And we did it without diluting the mathematics. Since mathematics is already fun, we did not need to make an artificial effort to entertain the reader. It was like mathematics from a professional perspective, but offered a form, a style and an openness that we hope everyone can understand.
